A Day at the Highland Games

Every year I try and take at least one major trip with my partner Jay and my best friend Jesse; this year we went to the East coast! After a brief pit stop in Ottawa we arrived at our first destination: Fredericton, New Brunswick. We drove all day in order to make it by Saturday for the annual Highland Games.

Our day started with a bagpipe lesson, which was surprisingly fun. I play the clarinet and alto saxophone so I was brought up to the front to give it a try!

I’m not quitting my day job.

After a Gaelic lesson we headed over to the food tent to get some Scottish food. Jay and I decided to be adventurous and got haggis on a bun and a Scotch egg.
The haggis tasted a lot like liver and the egg was delicious!
We took in some dancing and heavy events and then took a break and wandered downtown to the Historic Garrison District.I have to say Fredericton is very beautiful and the people are SO friendly! We hung out with the guards and took a walking tour.
After a bite to eat we headed back to the games for the Ceilidh. We didn’t really know what to expect, but it was a blast! Great music, lots of beer, and we got some dancing in as well! Slainte Mhath!
